SHINee critisized by Japanese media

On December 7th, The SHINee boys wanted to hold a secret Santa event to thank fans for their album 'The First'. However, the event was canceled because so many fans gathered in the area. But it seems the Japanese media is attempting to state "the true reason why the event was canceled".

The promotion for the event said, "Find a 5-member group with a name beginning with the letter S."

But the Japanese media claim the crowd was under the impression that SMAP, a popular Japanese band, was going to appear. Finding out the "deception",  Japanese netizens complained that SHINee was trying to use SMAP's fame to boost their own popularity in Japan.

SHINee themselves where sad that the event was canceled and said, "Given that there was such a big crowd, it is a shame that we had to cancel the event. But we still want to thank our fans for their support."
